From URL to stream in seconds: how the import extension works

ZeroStorage Team1 min read

Just paste the page URL, and the extension will resolve the underlying media manifest, pass it to your ZeroStorage account, and let the server handle the rest.

What leaves your browser

  • The media URL that the page exposes — not your cookies for that site.
  • Your ZeroStorage session, for the import process itself.
  • Nothing else: no history, no page content, no screenshots.

What happens next

  1. The server downloads the source media.
  2. FFmpeg transcodes it to the HLS ladder.
  3. Thumbnails and subtitle tracks are generated.
  4. The file lands in your library just like any other upload.

Where it stops

Sites that require DRM, signed cookies, or player-level challenges are out of scope on purpose. The extension only reads what the page already serves you — it does not attempt to break protection.
